Water
penetration and damage is an all too
common problem on new home construction jobsites. Water
from driving rain (due to recent hurricanes) was allowed enter
this new
home under construction -- unseen by the new home owner until
mildew began to appear on the drywall. The Builder on this particular project
did nothing to prevent future water penetration. As a
result, the water combined with the dark window seat enclosure
area created conditions for mold and mildew to grow. The
result: Wood Decaying Fungus (commonly referred to as
"Wood Rot") was allowed to grow and decay the wooden
components on this new home still under construction.
The
bay window must be removed and rebuild in order to replace the
rotted wooden components.
These
photos were taken by a Guardian home inspector during an
inspection of a new home under construction.
