New
Construction Defect: Framing Defects
The
photo above shows a ceiling joist improperly joined to a
roofing truss. From the number of nails driven through
this framing member, we can see that the framing subcontractor
made multiple failed attempts to create a tight structural
join between the two members.
Unfortunately,
the reason for this gap is that the ceiling joist was cut
short and was not long enough to stretch across the needed
span. But instead of cutting a new joist to make a
tight, firm join, the framer gave up and moved on to the next
joist (which was also too short - see photo below).
