Roofing Defect: Slipping
Asphalt Shingles
The
photo above shows an asphalt shingle roof with shingles that
are slipping out of alignment. The condition is normally
caused by improper fastening (nails or staples) of asphalt
shingles during installation. In the case shown above,
many shingles were never fastened at all.
In
addition to being a cause of roof leaks, this condition can
also be extreemyl hazardous to homeowners and home inspectors
who walk the roof -- because the shingles may slip out under
foot.
This
condition is red flag alerting prospective homebuyers to
roofing that was not installed by a professional.
